To John Norman
Monday, June 3, 2013
Dear John,
forty-seven years ago you entered our lives with a story about another world, another way of living, that captured us by its unique culture, bound us by its unspoiled beauty, intrigued us by its numerous implications, and enslaved us with its real-life consequences.
Your private alternate world became our common alternate reality.
Your books are dangerous, John, and it is no wonder some have had problems with them. They are highly addictive, controversial, unsettling, hard to grasp and easy to misunderstand, and most of all, they force you to think for yourself, instead of blindly repeating contemporary mantras. When thinking starts, you know, it can't be stopped. For that, and for the pleasure you provided for almost half a century, we are profoundly grateful.
Today, we celebrate your eighty-second birthday, and on behalf of Jon and me, the readers of the Complete John Norman, and the folks and friends at Chronicles of Gor, we wish you health, peace and happiness.
May you path be paved with love, ingrained with curiosity, and fringed with wonder.
Take care.
Simon
PS. No, I'm not disappointed. Still got a few questions, though... -smile-

Dear Richard:
Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness, and kind wishes, and that of many other friends, on my birthday. Such things are very much appreciated.
[...]
I would also like to express my gratitude for, and my amazement concerning, the work of various webmasters who have helped so much to enrich, enlarge, and deepen the Gorean experience. Best wishes then to them all, Simon, Jon, and many others, readers, friends, and fellow adventurers, ones unafraid of new and unusual shores.
Thanks, again.
I wish you well, all of you.
John Norman
