New Cover Edition On Its Way!

(Published on Saturday, March 9, 2013)

In June, 2007, when E-Reads republished the entire Gor-series, they used a generic cover based upon a photograph of a young women in bondage; and even though this image clearly reflected the adult nature of the series, to many fans, yours truly included, this image overstated certain parts of the content, while ignoring many others. Old time fans still remembered the covers of the seventies and eighties editions of the Gor series, the bright and vivid images of Chris Achilleos, Robert Foster, Frank Frazetta, Kelly Freas and Boris Vallejo, to name a few; and so, some three years ago, when E-Reads was informed about these issues, they decided to recreate the grandeur of the first Ballantine and DAW editions, and to republish the entire series with new individual artwork that would match the beauty and splendor of the earlier editions.

It hasn't been easy, it's been a long way, and a hard job, but they have succeeded beyond my wildest expectations.

Jon Ard and I were allowed to watch the entire process from the background; starting with John Norman's scene selections and cover suggestions; we have seen each and every cover being developed from first raw sketch to final full color artwork, and in my opinion, Shefali Randeria, founder and team-leader of Cirque-Studios in India, has captured the beauty and wonder of the Gorean universe in a way that even Frazetta and Vallejo couldn't accomplish, and where several of the earlier artists created animals that don't even exist on Gor, each and every detail of this new series of covers is perfectly accurate and in line with the descriptions on the books.

Within the next four to six weeks, E-Reads is going to withdraw the books with the old covers, and replace them with the new. Any collector who wants to make his/her collection complete should act now, for after the change-over the old covers are gone forever. The rest of us might start saving up some money, cause when the new edition is released, the urge to own them will probably be irresistible.

But wait, there's more...

E-Reads is also developing posters based upon the new artwork, and they are investigating the development of a separate hardcover collectors edition. If and when they become available, we'll let you know.

Check back in a couple of weeks when we hope to have a complete gallery of the entire series of new covers, the most beautiful ever, which we have decided to name:

The Ultimate Edition
